Trump partner Louis Cappelli sees things differently

While others gaze at trees, White Plains developer Louis Cappelli sees the forest of opportunities.

An occasional partner with Donald Trump, White Plains, NY-based Cappelli has almost single-handedly transformed the skyline along the Long Island Sound with plans for some of the tallest structures between New York and Boston.

It's a matter of how you look at things, he said when interviewed for an October, 2007 article for AirTran Airline's in-flight magazine, Go.

“When I drive my car in a city, I’m not just gazing out the front of the car daydreaming, I’m looking at what’s there. If I see something and I like it, I come back and figure out how I could do that.”

If you ask Cappelli how to achieve business success, he’ll tell you to think less about what you want. “Walk into negotiations with a completely open mind, with a goal of getting something accomplished,” he says. “Listen to everyone, then try to figure a way to compromise.”

In a nutshell, here's some of his best business advice:
• Know what the other party wants
• Create consensus
• Be credible
